Welcome! In today’s Furniture Flip we did an Ikea Hack on a plain armoire from the kids department. We used wood embellishments to add interest to the piece. For the paint we used a combination of FolkArt Home Decor Chalk and Crackle Finish. To add the highlighted details we used FolkArt Multi Surface paint. The entire piece is sealed with wax. The hardest part of making over this armoire was the wait time!
WATCH HOW!
Yes…. we had lots of steps for this DIY but that is what makes it so rich looking. Without the layers the piece would be flat and with no texture.
BEFORE
The faux finish armoire started as this hutch from Ikea. It is the Hensvik armoire from the childrens section.
After
See how all the details and crackle finish add so much texture and depth.
The moulding that runs down the edges was from Lowes. We used wood glue to attach all the pieces.
The center and top pieces are from Hobby Lobby. See how that dark paint really makes the embellishments stand out.
In this picture you can really see how that multiple colors and layers really make a difference. Don’t be afraid to undercoat your paint projects with bold colors.
For corners, I like to use pieces that have angles or curves to highlight the corners.
We switched the handles to glass pulls and used wood embellishments to highlight and add interest to the handle area.
You can really see the crackle finish in this picture. We didn’t use a traditional crackle method….. we smeared our crackle to great more distress.
High Fives!!! We are finished with another Furniture Flip. See more episodes on YouTube.
