These adorable little google eyed animals are actually sidewalk chalk that is made from Apple Barrel Paints and Plaster of Paris. The mold we used is an egg carton. They couldn’t be more easy to make and kids will love making them and giving them as party favors or to their classmates.
Watch and Learn How!
The egg carton chalks can be turned into so many different animals. We used sticky google eyes and a little paint to create a mouth.
To add the tint to the chalk, I used Apple Barrel Paints. They come in a gazillion colors so it is easy to make any color under the rainbow.
I used little cello candy bags to wrap each one up.
What You Need:
Apple Barrel Acrylic Paints – As many colors as you wish
Disposable mixing bowls, cups and spoons
Water
Plaster of Paris
Egg Carton
Google Eyes
Glue
Paper Backing
Cello Bags and Ties
Apple Barrel Paint – Black
Detail Paintbrush
How To:
Combine 1 3/4 cups of water with 2 cups of Plaster of Paris. Stir gently so you donβt create air bubbles. Mix until it looks and feels like pancake batter.
Separate the “chalk batter” into cups. Each cup will represent a different color. Add a dollop of Apple Barrel Paint and continue to stir. When adding the paint, begin with a tablespoon. Add more paint until the desired color is reached.
Pour the batter into a section on the egg carton. Continue with each color. Allow to dry over night.
Pop the chalk from the egg carton. Glue google eyes and paint a smile. Glue the chalk to a paper backing. Slip into a cello bag and tie with a twist tie.
