Are you like me? You love crafting items for the classroom and school….. Yes? Then these Painted Pencil Vases are going to be right up your alley. These back to school Painted Pencil vases / decorations are so easy to make. You can use recycled mason jars to create the pencil vases. I made these for a school event in the park. I knew I wanted to make something that could be used over and over so coated them with Hard Coat Mod Podge and used silk flowers.

I used some basic Apple Barrel paints for this project. The Chalk will be used as primer. Used a pencil to match up my colors.
Start with clean mason jars. You can recycle sauce jars, jelly jars or but new ones. For this table display, I used 1 large store bought jar and two recycled jars. Soak the jars and remove the labels.
Prime the mason jars with a coat of FolkArt Home Decor Chalk.
I did two coats with dry time in between.
Paint the base and lower edge of the mason jar with light pink Apple Barrel paint.
I did two coats of pink paint to all the mason jars.
Paint the upper curved edge a light tan color. This is the “wood” section of the pencil.
Paint the center the mason jar with yellow paint. I did two coats of the yellow paint.
At this point you want the jars to dry fully.
Paint the upper rim of the mason jar with black paint.
Paint two coats of black paint around the upper edge. Paint the bottom of the black area with a squiggle edge to look like a sharpened pencil.
Seal the Pencil Painted Mason Jar with Mod Podge Hard Coat or Gloss. I like hard coat because these vases will get used over and over again.
Our school is a language school so I wanted to make “Hello Signs” in multiple languages.
I laminated them so they could be used over and over again.
I glued some silver sparkle ribbon around the top of the eraser area.
I’m using silk greens and flowers in the vase so we are ready to go with decorations when we need them.
I used silk flowers that matched the school bus fabric and our signs.
I love how they turned out! So fun for PTA and school events.
Such a fun welcome decoration pencil bouquet! Parents and kids loved them!
I also made a card table cover for the friendship bracelet making station. Visit this post to see the how to.
