Today, I’m sharing a quick tutorial on how to make Harry Potter inspired Hogwarts Tie T-Shirts. For this easy sewing project I’m using Hogwarts fabric from JoAnn Fabrics and a couple of plain black tee shirts. Plus, I have a few fun pictures of our adventures art Universal Studios Hollywood. We are pass members and live just about 10 min from the park. So we love to pop in for a little fun.
Step 1 – Create a paper tie pattern similar to what I made. This size was for kids tees so adjust your pattern to the length you want.
step 2 – Apply iron on fusible webbing to the back of the fabric and trace your tie design with a pencil. I was careful in my placement…..I wanted to make sure certain parts of the fabric made it into my tie design.
Step 3 – Fold your T-Shirt in half.
Step 4 – Gently press a center seam. This will help you with placement of the tie. Open the tee back up.
Step 4 – Peel the paper backing off the fusible webbing. The back of the fabric should now have the fusible webbing attached.
Step 6 – Place the tie in the center of the T-Shirt.
Step 7 – Iron the tie to the tee shirt.
Step 8 – Iron the “knot” of the tie to the tee shirt.
Step 9 – Sew around the outer edge of the tie. You can use a straight or zig zag stitch.
Step 10 – Choose some matching bottoms and wear with pride.
Delilah and Sophia LOVED their Harry Potter tie tees. They got tons of comments and complements as we strolled through Universal Studios Hollywood.
All aboard the Hogwarts Express!
