Last year, we updated Sophia’s little girl bike to the next level and big sis Delilah got a new scooter! We are so lucky to have a great park near our house that the girls can ride and ride and ride around in safely. We have always tucked little snacks and water into a bike basket so they can carry their own treats. Poor Sophia…. her old bike basket was just trashed! So…. it’s makeover time. I hope this quick tutorial inspires you to makeover what you have! For this design, I’m using mesh bath poufs from the dollar store and some fun fake flowers.

This was the before of her bike basket. As you can see the plastic lacing was cracked all over and the top was coated in yucky stuff.

First, I gave it a good scrub.

After the good scrub, I removed the lacing and kept the vertical supports in place.

I decided to use bath poufs for my lacing material. My thoughts were that it would be strong and waterproof material. I grabbed a few at the dollar store and some cute and tacky silk flowers.

First, I opened up the sponges/poufs with a few snips. After opening a bath pouf you will get a long ribbon tube of mesh.

Next, I tied the bath pouf mesh ribbon.

Next, I wrapped the top and bottom edge with the mesh ribbon. Then, I started to weave the material through the vertical supports.

As I wove the materials, I pushed down on them to make sure I had tight layers with now gaps between rows.

I wanted to add a bit more color to the basket so I switched to a yellow bath pouf for a few rows.

I also wrapped the yellow mesh around the top edge.

Once I was at the end of each mesh piece I would just tie it off on the inside. I used double knots to secure.

I used hot glue to attach some silk flowers to the basket. I added gems to the center of the flowers.

Bike Basket Makeover is complete! I used 5 bath sponge pouf for the entire basket.

I used zip-ties to attach the new basket to the cross bar on the bike.

Sophia was thrilled with her makeover and she is ready to ride!

Helmets first! 🙂

I think I’m going to have to make one for Delilah’s scooter. LOL I hope this little tutorial gets you inspired to remake what you have.
