Sophia wanted to be a Snake Wrangler this Halloween so of course I whipped up a Snake Wrangler Costume. I’m using a French Toast uniform dress, a thrift shop tank top, a Cat and Jack snake tee shirt, snake appliqués and some snakeskin felt.

I started with a plain base dress. I used a uniform dress by French Toast. I love the Indiana Jones vibe.
I found the perfect tee for making a snake appliqué. I always hunt thrift shops and clearance racks for cool designs that can be made into something else.
I ordered patches from amazon. Ebay had some fun ones too. I hand sewed and used an iron to attach them to the dress. Make sure you prewash your dress.

For the belt, I wanted to add some snakeskin trim. I cut this snakeskin felt into strips and sewed them to the belt.
The fabric is a little tricky to sew… I go over a few sewing tips in the video.
I like to place wax paper over my faux leather materials. I sew right over the the wax paper and then I just peel it away after. My presser foot never gets clogged or stuck.
For the bracelets and boot cuffs, I’m using a thrift shop tank top and her old boots.
I cut the straps off the top. Then I cut the bottom section on half. I’m using the top for bracelets and the bottom for boot cuffs.
I just measured around Sophia’s wrist and hand sewed them into looped cuff bracelets. For the boots, I just wrapped the fabric around each boot and I safety pinned the back.

The snake appliqué on the dress is from a Cat and Jack tee from target.
To do the tee shirt appliqué, just cut around the graphic. Be sure to leave a little fabric border where your stitching will go.
It can be tricky when your presser foot goes over some tee short graphics. If your presser foot sticks to the graphic, try adding a folded tissue over the graphic. The presser foot will glide over the napkin.
This was costume test day…….. You can see how much Sophia loves her toy snakes!
This was at Boo at the Zoo at the LA Zoo……They had two wonderful snake displays!
Happy Halloween and Happy Snake Wrangling! xo Cathie
