I’m still a magazine girl….. my favorite magazine for cooking and recipes is Fine Cooking. Every year, Eddie gets me a subscription for my birthday. And every year, I read them, stack them and then spend an evening tearing out all the recipes I want to try. I use magazine organizer to keep my cooking magazines and clipping in order. This is a great project to make for mom or grandma. Mod Podge, paper and a magazine file are the simple ingredients needed for making a family recipe file.
Supplies:
Magazine file
Scrapbook paper
pencil
scissors
Mod Podge
Foam paintbrush
Corse loose-bristle paintbrush
Wooden kitchen spoon
Twine
Folk Art Paints: Pink, White and Black
Hot glue
Wood word: family
Paper border embellishment,
Instructions
- Trace all the sides of the magazine file onto the back of the scrapbook paper. Cut out the papers.
- Apply Mod Podge to the back of the paper, position onto the magazine file, smooth with a brayer or your fingers to remove any air bubbles. Allow to dry for 15 min. Top-coat with a layer of Mod Podge to seal the paper. Do this for each side. On the spine, Mod Podge a paper border across the top.
- Paint the word family with Pure Black paint. Dry brush White Adirondack over the letters. To dry brush, dip the loose bristle course brush into the White Adirondack, tap off almost all of the paint and with a very light hand paint.
- Paint the wooden spoon with Baby Pink. Dry brush White Adirondack over the spoon. Once dry hot glue and wrap twine around the handle of the spoon.
- Hot glue the spoon and family to the spine of the magazine holder.
Tip: Personalize it more with painted letters that spell a family name.
